The General Construction Sector covers skills for workers in general and off-site construction occupations from entry level to management. [ Off-site construction refers to construction which takes place at a different location than the location of use, ie in a manufacturing plant or factory specifically designed for this type of process - constructed items such as building modules, stairs etc, are then transported to the site.]

The workforce is primarily engaged in residential and non-residential building and construction work. The majority of work is on new structures with a proportion involved in alterations and additions to existing buildings. Some work is shared with those from the civil construction sector especially where integrated projects occur.

Cleaning Sector

The Cleaning Operations Sector of the property services industry covers general cleaning of residential, industrial and commercial properties as well as automotive cleaning. It is represented by large companies with national contracts through to one-person operators. Additionally, cleaning personnel may be engaged within organisations, such as hospitals, as staff members.

The sector comprises people and businesses providing cleaning services to schools, hospitals, construction sites, commercial, industrial and domestic premises, as well as cleaning of industrial machinery and vehicles.

Fire Protection Inspection & Testing Sector

The FPIT Sector of the property services industry provides fire protection services to a wide variety of customer situations including shops, factories, domestic premises, offices, mines, airports, oil platforms, drilling operations, etc. The industry is comprised of a small number of large enterprises and a large number of micro to small businesses.

Home Sustainability Assessment Sector

The home sustainability assessment (HSA) sector is focused on the energy efficiency of residential buildings. The sector incorporates two broad categories of qualifications: qualifications required by assessors for regulatory purposes related to the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) and those for assessors who are involved in conducting home sustainability assessments directed at improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of residential buildings.

Pest Management Sector

The Pest Management Sector of the property services industry provides pest management services in urban and rural environments. The sector is comprised of some large and many micro businesses, the majority of which are owner-operators. Employees consult with clients to identify pests, assess pest management options and apply a range of treatments depending on the type of pest, its location and client requirements. These businesses work closely with equipment and chemical manufacturers in an effort to improve pest control services, treatment methods, equipment and newer technology in chemicals
